Mercer Dam, looking at reservoir                              Mercer Dam, looking downstream

Spawning Gravel Enhancement: The council is seeking funding to design and implement a program to remove gravel currently trapped in the reservoir around the dam and to place it in combination with boulders and/or large wood pieces at several downstream locations in order to enhance spawning and rearing habitat.

Key Benefits

  • Increased production of Winter Steelhead, Coho Salmon and Cutthroat Trout due to enhanced spawning and rearing habitat
  • Cooler summer water temperatures due to increased hyporheic flow
  • Increased substrate for macroinvertebrates (a.k.a. fish food)
